Experienced faculty guide students through 4 years of comprehensive learning and the labs are among the best in Chennai.

Labs: Fully equipped and air-conditioned computer and internet labs are available. Latest software which is of industry standard is taught. Students learn various computer languages and are skilled at writing programs and software by the end of this course. 4 such labs are available to students. Assignments can be finished after-hours as labs remain open for student use.

Course Mentor: Dr Srinivasan Alavandar With close to 10 years of teaching experience, Mr Alavandar is a PhD holder from IIT Roorkee, from where he went on to win a research fellowship with the Union HRD Ministry for work on control of robot manipulators. Dr Alavandar is on the editorial board of many international and national journals in his chosen field and has chaired numerous international conferences. His name was included in the Marqui’s Who’s Who in the World in 2008 for his outstanding research contribution in control engineering.

HoD: L Indu With close to 10 years of teaching experience, Ms Indu is a whiz when it comes to her subject. Enthusiastic about computer languages, she encourages her students to innovate and moulds them into skilled problem solvers. Ms Indu works closely with students to mentor them and turn them into exactly what the IT industry wants.

2) BE – AE (Aeronautical Engineering) :

This is a 4-year undergraduate course. It is ranked No 1 by Anna University & the AICTE among Chennai’s engineering colleges in an evaluation done in 2009. Infrastructure in the labs is better than in any other college in the city. Industry placements ensure that students get hands-on experience in an actual workplace. Equal stress is laid on aircraft structures, aerodynamics and aircraft propulsion. Students are taught the importance of airplane design and projects are related to maintenance of these machines. Field visits are organised by the college to aeronautical and space establishments. Training is given in special areas such as CFD and FEM. An aero modeling club has been formed to create awareness about the practical aspects of design and flying. Based on the student’s academic performance, airplane flight laboratory training in gliders and powered aircraft is made available in the pre-final year.

Labs: A twin-engine Cessna plane helps students get hands-on experience in flight design and the working of an aircraft. A wind tunnel, testing equipment and a jet engine find space in the labs so students can see what they learn and understand their subject better.

HoD: Dr K Vijaya Raja 14 years of teaching experience has made him the perfect man to head PBCE’s Aero Dept. Dr Vijaya Raja is a prolific writer, co-authoring many papers in national & international journals. His passion is helicopters and he spends his leisure time designing these machines.

3) BE – EEE (Electrical & Electronics Engineering) :

This is a 4-year undergraduate course. PBCE’s EEE department has been ranked 5th amongst all engineering colleges in Chennai by Anna University & the AICTE in 2009. Key speakers from the industry address students periodically and students are asked to work on live projects. The EEE department offers excellent practical training in electrical machines, power electronics, electric circuits, control systems and computer simulation. The department has a separate library with a collection of 300 books.

Labs: Labs are well-equipped with the latest instruments from a simple voltmeter to cathode ray oscilloscopes and computers with the best simulation software. Labs are available for student use after-hours as well.

Course Mentor: Dr R Balakrishnan Also the Dean of PBCE, Prof R Balakrishnan is an IISc graduate and a PhD holder in Power Systems Engineering. With 10 years of teaching experience, he is the quintessential guide, urging students to learn more. Dr Balakrishnan brings with him vast industry experience – he is employed with Tata Consulting Engineers in Mumbai as well as other engineering companies in Chennai. His experience enables students to get hands-on training expected by the industry so that they are at ease in their workplaces when they graduate.

HoD: S Nagaraj A Masters degree holder in the subject, Mr Nagaraj inspires students to reach above themselves and aim higher. Mr Nagaraj continually publishes papers at prestigious conferences in the country. He encourages students to work on live projects in the industry and provides individual attention to students.

4) BE – ECE (Electronics & Communication Engineering) :

This is a 4-year undergraduate course. Excellent lab facilities allow students to understand the latest and best research in this field. A mentoring process helps students receive individual attention from professors and seniors. Students are trained in the latest technology: SDR, RFID, ZigBee, WiFi, NOC, Smart Antenna, MMIC, MEMS and Nanotechnology, amongst others. This training is imparted outside of the regular university syllabus so that students may have an edge over their peers in the industry when they graduate.

Labs: 6 labs are for exclusive use by students in this department. A VLSI lab, microwave lab, network lab, digital signal processing lab, microprocessor and controller lab and an electronics devices and circuits lab helps students gain industry-standard knowledge. Students are also encouraged to utilise the latest software in VLSO to create their own IC chips.

HoD: S Srinivasan Over 10 years of teaching experience hasn’t reduced Mr Srinivasan’s passion for his subject. He researches as he guides students through microwaves and optics, adding to his repertoire of knowledge and hungry to learn more.
